10th April 2013 | Thanks to Essex Roads CC for an excellent, and very well organised sportive on Sunday. It was a great day even though I got three separate punctures on the way round. The course was great! Even the weather was kind to us. It was my first Spring Lambs and I'll be doing more!! |

On Friday and Saturday 1st and 2nd of Feb, myself representing Cycles UK will be at Jaguar in Brentwood promoting the release of the new Jaguar XF Estate as used by Team Sky. The event starts at 10 and finishes at 4 on both days with a range of activities for all the family. The event is very much a cycling themed Velo-Jaguar event. Well worth a visit even if you are not in the market for a Jag. Local clubs/teams/cyclists are invited.

Well what a fabulous event, shame we didn't cover all the time trials
as we may have been 2nd but 3rd overall for this year. Cant say thank
you enough to all of you that took part in the various events over the
weekend. You were all really fantastic. As a team we won a few
sections and ran 2nd place for quite a while cutting it fine with the
Chelmer. Gwens husband Alan raced his first 7k on my old road bike no
aero or clip in pedals for a very respectable time, Colin Ward won the
7k sprint in a dusting time of 9.19, Nick had a personal on the same
course. Giselle did a very nice time too for the ladies. Wardy also
went on to 2nd place with the most fantastic fast time over the 10tt
against Joe Perret. The Audax's were well covered and we were only 2
riders down from the Eagle in the 100k but matched them in the 200k! I
believe as a club we really could win it next year if we covered all
the events, it is possible. |

I just wanted to say a big thankyou to all the Essex Roads members for their support and help with some of my equipment. |
Date: |
22nd April 2012 | Congratulations to Colin Ward today for his fantastic win in our Essex Roads CC road race part of the high quality Eastern Road Race League. Not only did he attack and stay away for 3 x laps on his own but when he was joined by 6 x other breakaway companions he attacked again on the last lap and pulled away for a very well deserved win. Nice one Colin! Also well done to Tim Pettit & Jim Killen for their good solid performances too, and of course congratulations to Helen for another well organized, safe and exciting race for all who took part. |

This Sunday the 22nd is our Annual Road Race. It would be nice to have
as many of our club up there helping and supporting our club members
that are racing and helping. It will be a fantastic sight for those of
you who have not seen a road race and the HQ East Hanningfield Village
Hall will have the usual hot drinks and food. Please come up to
support us all, maybe the Sunday club rides could swing past as a show
of support. The race starts at 9am. |

I've Just learned about the passing of Ray Smith. He was a lovely bloke and to me a good friend. When I was running the off road section he was a great supporter of it and came along on most of the rides. I have fond memories of our groups weekends away to all part of the country. He was a strong rider with good off road skill level. He had a great sense of humour very dry wit also, but mainly a very friendly manner. I will miss him. I shall pass on the news to the guys he rode with who are not members. |

4th December 2011 | We'd like to send our Congrats to Matt "Crash" Barlow for riding an absolute blinder today at the new Gravesend Circuit today in freezing conditions. Not only was the 3/4's sent off a minute behind the E/1/2's but Matt dropped them to catch the Elites and drop them for the rest of the race showing true strength and stamina and was only just pipped to the post by a Dulwich guy who worked together with another to catch him on the line, absolutely fabulous course to spectate on too! thoroughly enjoyed our day, and congrats to Sandra for finishing in the same race which was 90 minutes!!!!!! |
Date: |
14th November 2011 | Just a huge thank you to Roy and Isabel from all the Early Birds for giving up their Sunday to support the Poppy Ride today. Especially for doubling back to retrieve one of our teams garmins. A great ride was had by all. Thanks again |

Hi Folks. May I take this opportunity to thank everyone in our open racing team who put in all the hard effort this year to get Essex Roads CC name firmly on the map again, in another very successful record breaking season. I will be sending out a schedule soon of the ECCA open events for next season and the ECCA Festival Weekend events. With the size club we have we could win this whole weekend, meaning money for the club. Our large membership base is sportive riders and you will be needed for next year as there are 2 very lovely long rides for you. The usual time trials and road races will also be going on that weekend and it would be lovely to see some family partnerships attempting the map reading section which entails working out clues to map co-ordinates and riding to them, in all a 20 mile ride.
|
Date: |
26th September 2011 | Congratulations to Essex Roads another great sportive. Well organised, good route, great food. Thanks a lot! |
Date: |
23rd May 2011 | I'd like to thank everyone that turned up to help and ride. My marshal's, Mick Scott, Michael Barker, Ken Hodges and Ray Smith, pusher off, Paul Hirst and Andy Sheridan who stepped in for 5 riders till Paul got there. Spotter, George Bailey, time keepers, Dick Spanton and Tony Brown and result board Nick Hastler. Also Ray not only marshaled but also did lots of washing up and tea making with me. To all the riders that raced and to those that apologised for not being able to make it. The rain stopped in time to make it a good day, albeit a bit breezy! I hear the way back was pretty quick! There was lots of Tea's and cake consumed by all afterwards! It made for a fantastic day and a good meeting place for riders and clubs that cycled out to watch. |
Date: |
21st May 2011 | I would just like to say a great big thank you to all the people who helped out with the organisation of the club circuit race at Hog Hill last Saturday. I am not going to mention individual names as I will forget somebody, but all your help and support was greatly appreciated, made the day less stressful and helped the event to pass without incident. Once again thanks and I hopefully look forward to your help with the event again next year. |
Date: |
19th May 2011 |
Very well done to Tim Petit on his fine 3rd place at Dunton tonight. On going away with a group of five other riders from the very first lap, the group of six maintained a lead of 15 seconds for the first half hour. They slowly extended it to about 30 seconds on the finish lap, with a sprint finish. Tim finished an excellent 3rd. |

Do you like riding fixed? Or have you never tried it, but fancy giving it a go? Well, the organisers of the Becontree / ELV Friday evening 10 series are hoping to get as many riders as possible riding fixed on Friday 27th May - so why not come along and give it a go? E14/10a course is a two lapper starting from Navestock Heath - first rider off at 7.30pm, £3 a ride (including post ride tea and a cake). All welcome - even if not riding fixed (or, of course, you can ride fixed any other Friday evening).
|
Date: |
4th May 2011 | I would like to send out personal thanks to all who turned up at the weekend. To those who braved the shut M11 to get up to the E2 and E33 to ride the time trials and cover the Marshalling dutes. To Mick Scott for single handedly taking on the map reading and to all of us that turned up to ride and help on the Monday at High Easter. It was a fantastic weekend. Even though we had no 4th or 3rd Cats road racing or Audax riders between us we managed to pull off a 3rd placing overall and won the club £200!!!! Cant thank you all enough! Perhaps if our sportive riders would like a challenge next year the 100k and 200k audax's need 3 riders in each to finish!!!! It's a great way to socialise with all sorts of cyclists! The Bacon Sarnies are a must too!!! |
Date: |
5th April 2011 | Thanks for a great day yesterday; wonderfully organised as always. I was unlucky enough to puncture with ten miles to go, only to find that the valve on my spare tube was useless. A female rider came to my rescue and let me have her spare tube, which saved the day. By the time I finished most people had gone so I had no chance to thank her properly or pay her for the tube, which I am more than willing to do. If there’s any way of doing this via your website it would ease my conscience considerably. Email: webmaster |

I think Jeff took a 5th place in the 2/3 the week before so well done to all. |

Hi Folks,
|
Date: |
24th July 2010 | Hi there, I am looking for rider(s) that would like to go out during the week (I unfortunately work at week ends) for anything between 20 to 50 miles (more is possible). I have been back to cycling since last September. I need to improve my speed and I find it quite hard on my own to progress now. So if anyone is interested, I live in Wickford but can meet anywhere around the area. I usually go out riding around the Hanningfield Reservoir/Danbury/Maldon etc. If you are interested please contact me at jeannot18@hotmail.com. Please note that I would be away for the next 2 1/2 weeks and will be back around August 16th. |

30th May 2010 | Trevor has asked that we circulate some form of notice about his ill health, and the fact that he might not be in appearance for a while, as stated below also his organising of 2 counties events. As I know some of our race riders read the "post it" so could this also be put on there as a hold your entries till we find out who is going to organise the ECCA events that Trevor Pedley was to organise???? I was with Trevor yesterday at the Victoria event and he is in good spirits but he does an awful lot so its going to be a tough few months ahead for us all on the ECCA committee. |

Thank you for a BRILLIANT, brilliant Go-Ride at Mayflower School today – we all had lots and lots of fun racing (the slow races were very tricky though!). I was really proud to see other children wearing the new T-shirt for Essex Road Juniors – I am going to tell all my friends to buy one! I am really looking foward to the next session at Lake Meadows.

|
Date: |
3rd May 2010 | I would just like to say that as a club we have excelled ourselves this year at the ECCA Festival and I thank every single one of you for riding in such awful conditions this year. It looks as though we have come 2nd overall, there was still some points to come in but we look very strong. Colin Ward being our newest rider has had a fantastic 3 days, his last event being the 2 up with Colin Wilgress coming 2nd in hailstones and 4 degrees, fantastic. All the time trials were covered and our road racing team were exceptional this year too, well done lads! Gwen was an outstanding rider this year covering solo and tandem events with myself, a very challenging day but worth it and a VTTA record for us over 10 miles! To the Audax riders, you know who you are, we cannot thank you enough for turning up and making it round the 100 and 200k rides in an extremely windy day, shame our sportif riders didnt take up the challenge too! I look forward to you all riding the rest of season and making Essex Roads stand out again in the racing circle. Congratulations Team! some photo's are on the Essex Roads Face Book site. |

Well done everyone who finished last night's TT. Commiserations to those who didn't. 22nd March 2009 | Many thanks to Simon Macfeeters who has been leading some very enjoyable club runs using his encyclopedic knowledge of the lesser known roads of Essex. I'm sure we all appreciate the effort that Simon has made to plan and memorise some new routes to save us having to cover the same ground week after week. Great effort mate, keep it up. |

12th March 2009 | Members were given a surprise, last night at the club evening, when the club room echoed with loud explosion. During a particularly vigorous section of the Turbo Training session a tyre had burst. Matt Haigh stated, the tyre had been punctured a number of times. Well it is now! See Picture |

23rd February 2009 | Thanks to Roy and the lads on the front for looking after me on Sunday. I enjoyed the ride and the cafe stop and look forward to coming out next time I am in Essex. 11th February 2009 | Neil Eccles Crosstrax Leeds. In Ilford with relatives from 19.02 and would like a Sunday Ride 22.02. Usually do 50-70 miles at about 20mph and it would great to ride on the Essex roads. Mail to equilibriumpt(replace by "at" symbol)tiscali.co.uk. Surely no snow left by then! |

7th February 2009 | Hog Hill will be cancelled this Sunday due to the conditions. It was still snowy on Thursday and the defrost has re frozen making the new tarmac really slippery. Tonight we are due another heavy frost. Perhaps we will try again next weekend? as I do not think it will de frost enough by lunch time?? |
Date: |
29th January 2009 | To anyone who fancies a ride round Hog Hill, Sunday 8th February. A group of us are going up to ride round it. If it is frozen in the morning we will of course go up in the afternoon. I will be ringing to find out if it is rideable that morning though as less people go up training Sunday mornings. anyone can ride round it, if you havent a bike they have them up there to hire. Dress warm as its very open up on the hill. there is a cafe there, but we usually take our own food and drinks. There is also changing rooms and shower facilities not to mention a gym. |

A big thank you to all you lovely people who organised the Boxing Day 'Race'! Ruth and Luke really enjoyed riding round the course... they were well chuffed that we 'beat' some riders (I haven't reminded them that we started up to 22 minutes before the others!)
Thank you again, and Happy New Year to you all!

Well done all those hardy members who turned up in the snow yesterday and endured first the sleet and later the rain. |

10th November 2008 | I would like to congratulate our Junior Riders for putting a tremendous first season into racing, on the road time trialling and closed circuit road racing. Sonny and Bradley showed skill and determination on all the courses they raced this year including the new Hog Hill Circuit, The Redbridge Cycling Centre. I hope they have been encouraged to keep training and come out next seaon with what they learnt this year to be up there getting a name for themselves in the sport. Congratulations boys! Perhaps our new junior members that have joined this year would like to come out and try next season with the boys making us have a strong junior club team. |

13th June 2008 | Guys, it seems that this is going to be the most hotly contested trophy this year. I have to say I think throwing yourself off a mountain is taking the competition a little too seriously though. Please let's all be careful out there! |
